WeUpliftU Foundation FAQ

The WeUpliftU Foundation is a Utah-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting veterans, first responders, and youth educational programs within the Utah community.

Our mission is to harness the power of community and leadership to create impactful fundraising events that positively affect those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.

The founders, Butch Brien and Karl Kelley, were inspired to create the foundation after witnessing the transformative power of community and charity events. They believe in the power of community to uplift the lives of those in need.

The foundation primarily focuses on supporting three groups:

  • Military Veterans: We provide veterans with access to resources and experiences that help them transition back into civilian life and address any challenges they may face.
  • First Responders: We support police officers and firefighters who risk their lives daily to protect our communities. We provide them with resources and support to help them manage stress and trauma.
  • Youth Educational Programs: We support youth programs like the Boy Scouts to build leadership, character, and community service among young people.

The majority of our funding 85%+ is allocated to therapeutic programs that will impact and improve the lives of Veterans, Active Duty Military and First Responders. 15% of our funds are allocated to support our Youth Educational Programs, like the Boy Scouts in Kaysville Utah.

The WeUpliftU Foundation engages with the community through various means:

  • Annual Golf Fundraiser: This is our primary fundraising event and serves as a community-building activity.
  • Operation Surf: This program provides veterans and first responders with therapeutic surfing retreats to improve their mental health and well-being.
  • Rewilding Mustang Medicine: Is an immersive experience that combines scientific knowledge and thousands of hours of cross-disciplinary research into classes and activities to help students navigate their emotions, regulate their nervous system, and chart a path to healing and growth. We specialize in support to our veterans, first responders, and their families.
  • Warrior Rizen: Is a 501(c)(3) 6,500 acre Dude Ranch in Morgan, UT for Military and Survivor Families. Inviting veterans and their families to escape their day-to-day and come to the ranch to experience a week-long vacation where we work hard and play hard. Here you will learn to raise animals and grow your own food, push cattle and play cowboy for a week.
  • Open Waters: OpenWater is a Southern California based non-profit organization (registered 501-c3 est. 2020) whose mission is to serve military, first responders, and their families through adventure, fellowship, and unique training programs. Co-founded by Danny Nichols (Huntington Beach surfer) and Kyle Kelly (Texas born Army Veteran), OpenWater was created around a mutual vision for bringing wellness to those who serve both locally and abroad through the medium of water–in particular the ocean, whose healing power they both experienced. Over the past 5 years, OpenWater has grown from serving small groups locally to a nationwide Active Mentorship program, unique training courses designed specifically for working first responders, and family programs; offering transformational breathing, water immersion, team building, and life long skills on the water that promote community, healthy living, personal growth, and healing.
  • Crisis Management Training: We provide presentations and training sessions to build awareness and support within the first responder community.
  • Partnerships with Local Leaders: We collaborate with First Sergeant leadership and psychologists to connect with active duty personnel, veterans, and first responders in need.

Individuals and businesses can support our mission in several ways:

  • Donating: Contributions of any size, whether cash, card, or Venmo, help us continue our work.
  • Volunteering: We are always looking for dedicated individuals to help with our events and programs.
  • Spreading the word: Help us raise awareness about our mission and the people we support.
